Annabelle Verhoye

Ephemeral beauty: From Claude Monet to Marc Quinn, flowers are among the allegorical motifs by which artists of all ages have drawn inspiration.

Annabelle Verhoye paints diaphanous visual patterns built from images of the natural world. The images that result have the consistency of meditations or memories, at once persuasive and elusive. The symbols come preloaded with mystical import, and Verhoye ups the charge substantially through her painting method.

Flickering in the depths of her layered acrylic glass paintings we might catch glimpses of her penchant for beauty and threat, two extremes that are seen as being part of the primeval idea of life itself.
